Embarking on a new career in the United States is a thrilling journey filled with opportunities, growth, and new experiences. However, starting an international nursing job can also raise plenty of questions. Aguinaldo’s employer in the U.S., United Methodist (UM), is there to guide you every step of the way—from your arrival to settling into your new role and community.
Your contract spans 6,240 hours. This is the total you’ll work over the course of your assignment. If you choose to work overtime, those additional hours will count toward this total, allowing you to complete your contract more quickly if you wish. It’s a flexible setup that rewards hard work and dedication!
Aguinaldo has you covered when it comes to your arrival. Someone from the UM team will pick you up from the airport and transport you to a fully furnished apartment. If you’re heading straight to the facility location, we’ll make sure to arrange your accommodations there. You can expect to stay in your apartment for about a week or two, depending on how quickly your Social Security registration and state license transfer are processed. Once you transition to the client’s location, you’ll receive two months of free housing. After that, UM and/or the facility will assist you in finding a more permanent living arrangement. Many nurses find housing recommendations from colleagues, making it easier to find a place in neighborhoods that others have loved.
While you’re staying in your temporary apartment, UM will cover your grocery expenses, ensuring you have everything you need to feel comfortable as you settle into your new environment. You’ll have the essentials to help you stay focused on adjusting to your new life.
Absolutely! Aguinaldo, based in the Philippines, exclusively works with UM – and both teams have Filipino culture and history built into them. We’re proud to have Filipino staff members at UM, and many of our client sites have Filipino nurses and other healthcare professionals onsite as well. Additionally, our team will remain in touch with you throughout your assignment, providing the support and guidance you need to feel at home.
Our staff will assist you with obtaining your Social Security number, as well as helping you complete any necessary paperwork, such as medical insurance documents and payroll forms. You’ll go through a thorough onboarding process with UM to make sure everything is in place and ready to go.
Yes, you will receive training either through Aguinaldo, UM or directly at your new facility. The best part? The training is completely free. We want to make sure you feel confident and prepared as you take on your new role.
We recommend waiting six months before bringing your family to the U.S. This allows you to settle into your new role and community without distractions. Based on our experience, this approach tends to make the transition smoother for everyone involved.
Due to the hardships that it would cause to our partner facilities, switching to another facility is not usually possible. Remember that it can take some time to adjust to your new position and facility — usually about six months. In some rare circumstances, if both you and the facility agree, a change might be possible. But overall, we encourage you to give yourself time to fully adjust before making any decisions. You’re not alone in this – our team is here to support you, both in your job and emotionally so your new nursing job and international career can be a fulfilling experience!
